Chapter One
A small smile spread across her face. “What do you mean?”
“I mean, are you okay to get undressed?”
Her heart was beating rapidly. She figured she could probably manage it, but she liked the idea of him helping. “I don’t think so.”
His eyes widened. “What … err … I … umm.”
She chuckled. “We’re both grown-ups. I’m sure you’ve unhooked a bra or two in your time, and you can always look away.”
He smiled. “You have more faith in me than I do.”
She shivered at the look he gave her. “I trust you absolutely.”
His smile faded, and he nodded. “And you can. I was only joking.”
“I know.” It seemed she’d killed the moment.
They watched a movie for a little while, but all the pills were starting to take their toll, and she was soon ready for sleep. She swung her legs down onto the floor.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah. I need to turn in.”
“Do you want me to help?”
“Please?”
It was strange having him in her bedroom. Even stranger that he was helping her undress. She’d had the occasional daydream about him being here, but the undressing part had gone a lot faster than this.
She struggled to get out of her sweater, and he pulled it up and off. She met his gaze. “I don’t know what to do for the rest. What to take off and what to leave on.”
He smiled. “If you were asking me for suggestions, I’d say take it all off, but then I’d come back to my senses and say you should probably sit on the bed. That way we can get rid of the pants, then I can help with your shirt and bra—and then make a run for it.”
She laughed and sat down. “Sounds like a plan to me.” She sat down and started to wriggle out of her sweatpants.
Luke took them by the ankles and pulled. “That worked out okay.”
“It did.” She pulled the covers up to her waist. “Now for phase two.” She did her best to get out of her shirt but just ended up with her cast stuck in it while the rest was wrapped around her head. She tensed as she felt him sit down on the bed. He pulled the T-shirt up over her head then gently worked it down over her cast.
When it was gone, they were sitting face to face and Angel was acutely aware of the way her breasts moved up and down as she breathed. To his credit, his eyes never left hers.
She touched his cheek and smiled. “Thanks, Luke.”
He nodded and moistened his lips with his tongue. “I think I should sit behind you and unhook that sucker.” He finally let his gaze drop down to her breasts and smiled. “Once those babies are free I’m not sure I’ll be able to make myself leave.”
She had to laugh. “Okay. You’re probably right. I don’t want you to go, but I’d be no use to you tonight anyway. You can get to know the girls another time.”
He chuckled. “Is that a promise?”
“It is.”
“Okay then.” He leaned in to kiss her all too briefly. His hand slid around her back and unfastened her bra.
For a moment, she hoped he’d stay, but he was on his feet, eyes closed as he backed away and then turned for the door.
He closed it behind him before he spoke again. “Just shout if you need me.”
